2017 Classified Employees Of Year Nominations Needed
County Schools staff members are encouraged to submit nominations for the annual Classified School Employee of the Year program, which is organized through the California Department of Education. The deadline for nominations to the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office is March 8.
The program, which features six categories for nominations, highlights the contributions of school employees who support public education for more than 408,000 students in the 33 county school districts.
The categories that employees can be nominated for include: child nutrition; maintenance, operations and facilities; office and technical; paraeducator and instructional assistant; support services and security; and transportation.
Eligible nominees need to be a current classified employee within a county public school district in grades K-12 (including charter schools, district office or county office). They also must be a rank-and-file employee (not in a supervisory or management position) and have five years of service for the category in which they are nominated.
Program information, including the nomination form, can be downloaded at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/sr/cl/ . Nominations should be sent to Nancy Johnson, manager of Human Resources for County Schools, at 760 E. Brier Dr. in San Bernardino, 92408. For more information, call Johnson at 909.386.9570.

Annual Reading Rally Set For Sept. 7
In partnership with California State University San Bernardino, San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and the San Bernardino Countywide Vision2Read initiative, there will be a Reading Rally on Sept. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The annual Reading Rally is an inspiring way for students to come together to discover and enjoy great works of literature. It is also a time of reading immersion which results in great strides in reading proficiency and introduces them to the adventure that a great book never fades. Mastering the skill of reading can be the foundational stone to building a child’s education success. Students will enjoy a fun-filled day of storytelling, crafts, special performances including theatre arts and puppetry, a book walk, storyboard showcase and free books to take home.
We are glad to serve those 1,000 students, their schools and districts which have confirmed their registration to this wonderful literacy event!
Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive Needs Your Support
Donations are being accepted for this year’s annual Thanksgiving Food Drive.
The Food Drive, which makes donations to students and families in County Schools’ educational program, is organized through Employee Connection.
The group’s goal is to provide and assemble enough baskets to provide Thanksgiving meals to close to 300 students this year.
Food and monetary donations can be made at six County Schools administrative sites – Brier, Roy C Hill, West End ESC, Desert Mountain ESC, Support Center and Mt. View.
Without support from County Schools staff, this event cannot happen. Below are fliers with food items needed and Employee Connection contacts who are accepting food and monetary donations (Checks can be made to SBCSS Employee Connection). A typical, fully assembled basket costs about $35 to produce.
In addition to the food for the baskets, County Schools also will provide books in this year's donations. Donated books can be new or used, but should be appropriate for grade-level students.
Thanks to all County Schools’ staff who support this program that directly benefits County Schools’ students and their families.
